YOUNG people in North Cornwall have been getting a crash course on how to stay safe while at the beach.
Staff have praised pupils for their engagement during the visit, asking thoughtful questions and taking part in discussions designed to build their awareness and confidence around water safety.
The visit also provided an opportunity to recognise and thank the RNLI for their vital work in keeping communities safe along the coastline.
A spokesperson from Marhamchurch C of E Academy said: “The school extends its sincere thanks to the RNLI lifeguards for delivering such an important and memorable learning experience for pupils.”
Deirdre Petersen, headteacher at Marhamchurch C of E Academy, added: "We are extremely grateful to the RNLI lifeguards for visiting our school and sharing such important safety messages with our pupils. The children were highly engaged throughout the session and asked some excellent questions. Experiences like this help to ensure our pupils understand how to stay safe and make sensible decisions when near water."
Tracey Cleverly, trust lead, said that these experiences are vital for teaching young people how to be safe near water.
She said : "Partnerships like this with the RNLI are invaluable in helping children learn essential life skills. It is wonderful to see pupils developing their understanding of water safety in such a meaningful and memorable way. We are very grateful to the RNLI for the vital work they do in keeping our coastal communities safe."
