PROPOSALS for a new slurry pit on a farm near Bude have been submitted to Cornwall Council.

The planning department is currently considering plans outlined by Mr R Tape at Cory Farm, Morwenstow, Bude seeking permission for the installation of a covered slurry store.

In the plans, the applicant said: “Cory Farm lies in open countryside near the Bude area, in a predominantly rural and agricultural setting. The farm operates a commercial livestock enterprise and is served by a private access track. The proposed slurry store will replace an older, less efficient facility and is sited in close proximity to existing farm buildings, within a gently sloping field. The site benefits from natural screening and topographical containment.

“The proposed development consists of an earth bank with a cover designed in accordance with the requirements of the Slurry Infrastructure Grant scheme.”

In the design and access statement, they further elaborated: “The site lies within an Area of Outstanding Natural beauty (AONB), where additional care must be taken to preserve the character and distinctive landscape features.

“The proposed slurry store is to be sited to the north of the existing farm complex and incorporate the west existing slurry store, maintaining close visual and functional association with existing built infrastructure. Views of the new store from further vantage points are well screened by the existing farmstead store and a mature hedgebank running north–south to the west of the development.

“As the structure is a below-ground catchment pit with earth banks that will naturally revegetate over time, no external facing materials are required, and the visual impact will be further softened as the vegetation establishes. The development is appropriately scaled, agricultural in character, and visually contained within the existing farmstead.”
