RESURFACING work stretching along the A3072 from Tamarstone Bridge in Pancrasweek to Weekstone Cross will take place from January 18 to February 1.

The road will be closed for eleven working days between the hours of 7am and 6pm and members of the public are asked not to park their cars on this stretch of road whilst work is being carried out.

Devon County Council is the highway authority in charge of this stretch of road and has the statutory duty to repair and maintain the road ‘in such a state as to be safe an fit for ordinary traffic’.

The road will be resurfaced by Skanska to protect the underlying road foundation from further damage. The work will also restore the road’s skidding resistance.

A large planing machine will be used to remove the old surface to a depth of up to 40mm. New material will then be laid by a paver (surfacing machine).

Cllr Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council cabinet member for highway management, said: “A section of the A3072 from Tamarstone Bridge to Weekstone Cross needs resurfacing.

“Unfortunately, the road isn’t wide enough to remain open while the work is carried out and a signed diversion will be in place running along the A388 and B3254 via Launceston.

“Diversion routes must use roads of a similar standard to prevent HGVs using unsuitable smaller roads.

“It is the drivers’ responsibility if they choose to find alternative routes away from the official diversion.”

During the work Tamarstone Bridge will be closed off to all vehicles. Pedestrian access will be maintained. Access to properties within the site and essential deliveries may be accommodated by liaising with the foreman of the site.
