PROSPECTIVE employees have been benefiting from the work carried out by Jobcentre teams across the area, helping people into work.

The organisation has been building strong partnerships and reaching communities in new ways with recent events in Bude, Bodmin, Launceston and Padstow delivering real results for local people.

Fay Fleming-Horner from the customer experience network in Jobcentres across Devon and Cornwall said: “Work Coaches tell us there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing someone succeed. Helping someone go into their first interview with confidence or land their first job is what motivates everyone in the team. With tailored support and more time for those who need it most, we’re helping people overcome barriers and develop new skills, changing lives in the process.

“Through wellbeing events, sector-based work academies and bootcamps, we are building strong partnerships and providing support to connect businesses with job-ready candidates bringing employers and jobseekers together and creating clear pathways into work.

“To employers with vacancies, our message is simple: get in touch. Jobcentre teams can help you recruit the right people quickly.”

Among the events held was a highly successful jobs fair in Bude, which helped connect more than 150 local jobseekers with employers and training opportunities.

The event generated immediate results, with multiple job offers made on the day and more interviews arranged for the weeks ahead.

Employers praised the quality of candidates and the organisation of the event, highlighting strong engagement, a wide range of skills and a positive atmosphere throughout.

The organisation has stated that Bude Jobs Fair ‘continues to play a key role in the local employment calendar, linking jobseekers of all ages with real opportunities and local businesses actively recruiting.’

Bude Jobcentre is also celebrating strong outcomes from its Sector-based Work Academy Programmes (SWAPs), with participants progressing directly into employment.

A large retail supermarket recently held interviews at the Jobcentre, including candidates who had successfully completed a SWAP. Young participants arrived well-prepared and confident, giving themselves the best chance of securing roles.

With more than 150 job opportunities currently available within 25 miles of Bude, including retail and hospitality positions, the team is optimistic about further positive outcomes.

Alongside this, a recent wellbeing event in Padstow marked a major milestone for Jobcentre outreach, being the first event delivered in the area after more than two years of sustained effort to build engagement.

The event brought together 13 local and specialist organisations, offering a wide range of support across wellbeing, health and employment.

Attendance reached 54 people over the two hour session, a strong level of engagement for a first-time event in a community that has historically been difficult to access.

Customers and local residents welcomed the opportunity to meet providers in a community setting rather than a traditional Jobcentre environment. The informal venue encouraged open conversations, allowing people to explore support tailored to their individual wellbeing and employment needs.

Feedback from providers was also highly positive, with many highlighting the value of reaching new audiences and working collaboratively with other organisations in one place.
