FRUSTRATION caused by Launceston’s final bank closure has been stemmed thanks to the announcement of a range of alternative banking services coming to the town.
During the last 12 months, Launceston’s residents have been hit by bank closure after bank closure, with every one of the town’s branches now having announced their upcoming discontinuation.
This came to a head this month when NatWest, the town’s final bank revealed that it too would be closing.
However, following a great deal of upset and frustration from locals, a new range of alternative banking solutions has been unveiled.
Though a banking hub has penned, its opening is not set to take place until June 2026.
A spokesperson for Cash Access UK said “It's official - we're bringing a banking hub to Launceston! The new shared banking hub will bring cash and everyday banking services to your community, such as cash withdrawals, depositing cash and cheques and paying utility bills, as well as a community banker service, so you can speak to your own bank about more complicated matters on specific days.
“It takes around 12 months to open a banking hub so please keep an eye on our website for the latest information.”
However, number of banks have announced how they will continue to serve residents’ banking needs within the town.
A community banker from Lloyds will be visiting Launceston Library every other Wednesday between 9.30am and 3pm.
As well as this, a Barclays representative will be available every Tuesday at the Central Methodist Church, while a Santander community banker will also be visiting the venue every Monday, starting from June 23, between 9.30am and 4.30pm to support customers.
The aim is that these services will provide residents with their banking needs until the banking hub opens next year.
