On September 4, Bude Men’s Shed officially opened its doors at Bude Rugby Club. Local legend Peter "Vicko" Vickery cut the ribbon in front of nearly 30 guests, and the launch event featured welcoming speeches from chairman Chris Mower and the shed’s instigator, Bill Malherbe.
Bill, who recently moved to Bude from Kent where he had been an active Men’s Shed member, said he missed the camaraderie and sense of purpose that came with the group.
“I wanted to bring that spirit to Bude,” Bill said. “This is a place for men to meet, chat, share skills and have a laugh in a relaxed, welcoming setting.”
Chairman Chris Mower added: “We’re delighted by the interest shown at our first meeting. The Shed will offer a friendly, informal space where men can socialise, take part in activities, support one another’s wellbeing and build lasting friendships. We would like to thank Bude Rugby Club for their great support.”
The club aims to provide a relaxed social atmosphere where men can talk and build friendships, as well as this, it hopes to promote men’s health and wellbeing through social contact and shared activities, and draw on the wide range of skills within the group to form interest-based subgroups and practical projects.
The Bude Men’s Shed meets every Thursday at 10am at the Rugby Club. There is no membership fee and no charge to attend. Donations to help cover teas, coffee and biscuits are welcome but entirely voluntary.
Those looking for more information or to find out how to join contact Bill via 07922446325 or attend the Thursday 10am meeting.
