RESIDENTS braved the weather this week to help officially open Launceston’s newest play park.
Back in June 2025, Launceston Town Council announced Priory Park was set for some much-needed renovations following a consultation held in August 2024, where residents were given the opportunity to have their say on the future of the local play park.
The council hosted the consultation, seeking to improve the site following damage to some play equipment as a result of anti-social behaviour.
Properties manager for Launceston Town Council, Martin Cornish told the Post: “In 2022, Launceston Town Council had to take the difficult decision to remove damaged play equipment from Priory Park due in part to anti-social behaviour.”
After ten months of work, on Tuesday, April 14, the town’s mayor led the celebrations as the newly refurbished site was officially opened.

A spokesperson from Launceston Town Council said: “The council would like to thank the Proludic play team for all they have done, especially in such difficult weather conditions, and we look forward too seeing the park being used by the local residents and community!”
Of course, the park couldn’t be opened without being tested first. Mayor, Cllr Nicola Gilbert and Cllr Dave Gordon made sure to carry out some quality control tests prior to Tuesday’s event.
A council spokesperson added: “The equipment has been tested by the mayor, Cllr Gilbert and Cllr Gordon and they approved!”
The development has been welcomed by residents, including deputy leader of Cornwall Council, Cllr Adam Paynter, who said the work has brought life to the town’s facility-starved north side.
Speaking to the Post, he said: “I was delighted to see the work done by the town council to revitalise the Priory Park play area. The northern side of the town is starved of facilities for young people and families, so this is a great addition.”
