Parsonage Court, Lifton was certainly a fine place to be on Sunday afternoon, June 5, for the Jubilee celebrations.

It was heartening to see so many people of all ages just being happy and content; mingling, laughing and simply just enjoying being part of the wonderful and welcoming community that is Lifton.

St Mary’s Church Lifton was bursting with such amazing floral displays that smelt absolutely divine. Lifton WI were delighted to showcase a display, along with a selection of articles from their 90-year history.

Willing volunteers from Lifton WI took centre stage at the event, helping to plan and support proceedings, serving tea and encouraging villagers and visitors to tuck into the delicious food (generously donated by Strawberry Fields). Special thanks went to members of the community who are not (yet?) members of the WI, but who willingly gave their time and effort to help out on the day.

Lifton women have been supporting each other from within the WI movement for nearly 90 years (so another celebration to plan). Membership is open to all women aged 18 years and older and offers so many opportunities to widen horizons, educate, develop new skills and make a real difference to other women in the community and across the globe.

Why not come along for a couple of free trial sessions and find out more? There really is something for everyone; walking netball, trips out to interesting places, guided walks, listening to interesting speakers, creative activities, community events and so much more. All are assured a warm welcome.

They meet at 7.30pm on the second Wednesday of each month at the Tamar Room, Arundell Hotel, Lifton.
