One understands the need for more housing in Cornwall. There is a need for more varied home types to cater for affordable starter homes and two or three bedroom bungalows for people in four and five bed homes to be able to downsize as their younger families move on to a more relaxed living and leaving the four and five bed homes already around Launceston for larger families.

There is a need for a less dense homes at the Stourscombe Farm site and I list some concerns as follows.

  1. Parking for more the one vehicle per home as one could see the overflow coming into Robin Drive etcetera.
  2. Vehicle movement from 250 homes would lead to great numbers coming past existing homes at Stourscombe near Gregorys Meadow and joining the A388 which is already an accident black spot.
  3. Before any homes are built, the 250 or the first 150, the road alignment needs to be done first to the A388.
  4. There is a concern that making Stourscombe Walk bigger for pedestrians and cyclists, if fact the lane at present is a private lane walk though to the junction of Robin Drive and Stourscombe Walk built over 10 years ago.
  5. There is also a need for a green area to space any new homes coming close to the hedges.
  6. From the plans it looks like the line of the sewage drains is linking into Snowdrop Crescent, going into the hammerhead, into the public open space field, under the A30 and on to the sewage works. This field is maintained by Launceston Town Council and has over spills into the field. The blockage of drains in Snowdrop Crescent since the linking of drains from Taylor Wimpy site the other side of the A388, South West Water have had to attend with tankers to clear the drains and address the smell. So any sewage from the Stourscombe Farm development needs to find another way to the sewage works the other side of the A30.

We all know from past developments how many things like roads, pathways, and drains are left until later in the development and as the Stourscombe Farm development was not in the Cornwall Community Network Areas papers for Cornwall Development framework of January 2012. Before any more is done on the Stourscombe plan there needs to be a public meeting with the residents of the area with the developers, Cornwall Council and Launceston Town Council at Lawhitton Village Hall.
