SUTCOMBE Primary School on Monday hosted a colourful Hinduism Day with help from Sandhya Dave from the Global Centre in Exeter.
Sandhya worked with the children in Class 1 and 2 to build on their knowledge of Hinduism linked to their current learning topic ‘celebrations’.
The children had a very interactive and exciting day where they did yoga, made and tasted a traditional Diwali sweet called barfi, made traditional flat breads called pooris as well as trying on Hindu clothes and taking part in meditation.
Sandhya then set up a Hindu shrine in the classroom and the children looked at the different artefacts and talked about what they were and how they were used.
The children then took part in puja (worship) where they learned a Hindu chant and listened to Sandhya sing while worshipping the gods on the shrine.
All the children had a great day and came away knowing lots more about Hinduism.
Sutcombe Primary School’s next event will be a Christmas dinner on Thursday, December 17 at noon in Sutcombe Village Hall.
It will be open to members of the local community. The event will cost £5 per ticket and will include a drink on arrival, Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and Christmas pudding.
The children will be joining members of the local community for dinner and to chat to them about what they have been doing in school recently, as well as singing them Christmas carols after they have eaten.
