SOME of Launceston’s future stars are set to take to the stage and take audiences on a journey through space as part of their latest musical run.

Performers from Launceston College are preparing to delight audiences as they Return to the Forbidden Planet for their latest production.

Running from Wednesday, July 8, to Saturday, July 11, the production promises four nights of high energy entertainment, featuring a stellar cast of students who have been working tirelessly behind the scenes and on stage to bring the show to life.

Winner of the Olivier Award for Best Musical, Return to the Forbidden Planet combines Shakespeare's The Tempest with the classic 1956 sci-fi film Forbidden Planet, creating a fast-paced adventure packed with comedy, drama and some of the biggest rock 'n' roll hits of the 1950s and 1960s.

Audiences will be transported to the mysterious planet D'Illyria, where they will encounter a mad scientist, his daughter, a loyal robot and a terrifying monster in a story filled with excitement, surprises and spectacular music.

The production features much-loved classics including Great Balls of Fire, Good Vibrations, Teenager in Love and Monster Mash, making it a show that will appeal to audiences of all ages.

With just 180 seats available per performance, demand is expected to be high and audiences are encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment.

The performance of Return to the Forbidden Planet is presented through special arrangement with MTI Europe, on behalf of MTI International.

Mr Matthew Thompson, principal at Launceston College, said: "Our students have shown incredible commitment, talent and enthusiasm throughout rehearsals, and we are so excited to finally share the production with the community. Whether you're a fan of musical theatre, classic rock 'n' roll or simply looking for a fantastic night out, this show has something for everyone."
