Now Halloween has passed, residents in Launceston are looking to get into the festive spirit as the town prepares to light up the night sky.

Each year, on a chilly winter night, the town’s community packs into the Town Square to officially launch the festive season in North Cornwall.

Christmas stalls, parades, activities and even a visit from Father Christmas are all on the cards at Launceston’s Christmas lights switch on event.

On Friday, November 28, the community is expected to come out in force to step into Christmas.

Residents can kickstart – or finish off, for those who are ahead of the game – their Christmas shopping with a wander round the late-night shopping market, hosting local businesses with plenty of gifts on offer.

The occasion also offers a range of delicious and warming food to try, as well as plenty of activities to get involved with, including a fairground!

However, the highlight for many is the lantern parade, which sees the streets aglow with colour and festive spirit as performers and residents make their way through the town, putting smiles on the faces of all who see them.

The parade will leave from Central Methodist Church, along Southgate Street, Madford Lane, Westgate Street and back into the square ready for the big switch on!

After the parade comes the main event when the town's mayor takes to the stage to launch a countdown before officially ushering in the Christmas period, switching on the town’s Christmas lights and bringing some festive joy to the Launceston’s streets.
