MEMBERS of Bude Surf Life Saving Club have paid tribute to the emergency services and victims of the Bondi Beach shooting.
On Sunday, December 14, the world went into mourning after two gunmen took to Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia and proceeded to open fire on crowds of more than 1,000 people celebrating the first night of Hannukah.
The event would become Australia’s deadliest mass shooting in almost 30 years, leaving 15 people dead.
Over the years, Bude Surf Life Saving Club has grown relations with a number of surf life saving clubs in the country on the other side of the globe and now, following December’s events, it has paid tribute to those who lost their lives, and those who attended the scene.
The club has said that despite being more than 10,000 miles away, they remain in the club’s thoughts.
A spokesperson for Bude Surf Life Saving Club said: “Our thoughts over the festive period have been with the victims and emergency responders following the tragic events on Bondi Beach on Sunday, December 14.
“Members of Bondi and North Bondi SLSC, along with volunteer and professional lifeguards were among the first on scene assisting the wounded and offering shelter for others.”
The club said Bondi’s SLSC has done the world of surf life saving proud.
The spokesperson continued: “You faced what the rest of us will struggle to comprehend, but with a common goal, to help those in their time of need. To each and every one of you who acted selflessly with extreme courage, you have done the world of surf life saving proud.
“As you begin to process the events of Sunday, December 14, remember that although we are over 10,000 miles away, we are thinking of you.
“We wish you a safe and successful summer period. Bude Surf Life Saving Club.”
