THE local community came together this week to bring some shine to one of Launceston’s bus shelters.
On Tuesday, May 19, local students and members of the community came together to revitalise an area of the town.
Talented students from St Stephens Community Academy were specially commissioned by Launceston Town Council to create artwork celebrating our town and what it means to them, in order to decorate a bus shelter on the Ridgegrove Estate.
Maura Furber, executive headteacher at the school said: “A huge well done to our brilliant Year 5 pupils at St Stephens Community Academy , who were specially commissioned by Launceston Town Council to create artwork celebrating our town and what it means to them. Their beautiful, bold paintings—filled with pride, colour, and community spirit—are now proudly displayed at the Ridgegrove bus shelter, and they look absolutely incredible!
“It was so special to see the children’s reactions as their artwork was unveiled—they couldn’t believe the size and scale of their final pieces. This project was all about Launceston and Cornwall and the things that matter most to our young people, and they truly captured the heart of our community.”

As well as this, a brand-new bench - donated by Cardo Group - was installed, offering the perfect view of the castle.
Finally it was time to tidy up the area, as students, council staff and residents came together to litter pick, while Cormac workers worked hard to clear weeds on the estate.
Mrs Furber continued: “Launceston Town Council shared their thanks and appreciation for everyone involved—especially the children—for making this such a meaningful and positive day for the town.
“A big thank you to everyone who came together to support and improve our community. We’re so proud of our pupils and grateful for the partnership with the Council to make this happen!”
