There’s a chill in the air, a frost on the ground and a glow in the sky, which can only mean one thing; Christmas is just around the corner! And what better way to get into the Christmas spirit than to light up the world, and on Friday, December 2, Launceston did just that with their big Christmas Lights Switch On.

Deputy Mayor of Launceston, Cllr Helen Bailey, said: “A wonderful evening for our community with the annual Christmas Light Switch On! A packed town square and beyond, waited patiently for Father Christmas to arrive with the parade of lanterns, lights and Samba Band. Entertainment took place on the stage including Launceston Town Band, Pop Choir and Cornwall Music for Schools.

“The town council wishes to thank all the businesses who are sponsoring the lights this year, and also to Fernbank Advertising who kindly sponsored the stage in the square. The tree is looking beautiful and don’t forget to take your picture with Pete the Polar Bear and play games on the App with your family.”

She added: “The town council hope you enjoy the festive season and the lights throughout December, especially for the next two Fridays with late night shopping events organised by the Chamber of Commerce. Free parking is available in the multi-storey car park each Saturday in December.”
