A SCOUT leader from Holsworthy will represent the UK at the 15th World Scout Moot in Iceland.

For Kirstie Stone, leader of the 1st Holsworthy Scout group, the World Scout Moot is an incredible opportunity and she is busy preparing for the experience.

The Moot is a gathering of Scouts aged 18 to 25 from across the globe. It will be held in the dramatic landscape of Iceland from July 25, to August 2.

The UK contingent will be taking over 500 participants to the event, where a total of 5,000 participants from 80 countries around the world will join together to embark on nine days of adventure, fun and discovery.

Participants will stay at the National Scout Centre on the banks of Lake Ulfljotsvatn. They will make new friends from across the world and visit Geysir and the stunning waterfalls of Gullfoss.

Kirstie will be using her skills to ensure the event goes to plan. She is part of the International Service Team (IST) who volunteer their time to plan and deliver the event programme, and make sure all the participants get as much as they can out of the experience as possible.

The IST gives those who take part the same exciting experiences as the participants and they will get a chance to learn new skills and visit the same breath taking locations Iceland has to offer.

Kirstie said: “I attended the World Scout Jamboree 2015 as a leader with a group of Scouts, I loved it and decided that I needed to give something back and make it possible for others to have an experience like mine.

“Being involved in scouting has given me so many unique opportunities over the last nine years. I have done so many new things as a leader in scouting — if anyone is thinking about volunteering then I would say go for it. It opens up opportunities like this and helps me share my skills and gain new ones.”

The theme of the Moot is ‘Change’. All members of the UK contingent will embrace change on their journey to the Moot, whether this is in their own lives or their local community.
