An Iron Cross, presented to a German airman by Hitler in 1939 after the Polish campaign, has been donated to Holsworthy Museum. During the Second World War it came into the hands of Surgeon Lieutenant Tom Lewis who was serving on board HMS Tetcott. It was on the body of a dead airman, found floating in the water, which Lt Lewis was required to examine before it was buried at sea. Last Saturday (October 24) Lt Lewis's widow and her three sons and daughter-in-laws visited Holsworthy Museum and handed over the Iron Cross to Janet Mason and Shawn Dymond, who in 2006, after copious research, published a book covering the full history of the ship, 'Tetcott — The Thrill of the Chase.'
