AN election to choose two new councillors to join Holsworthy Town Council is set to go ahead after ten or more electors requested it went to a vote.
It follows the resignations of former mayor Cllr Nigel Kenneally and Cllr Jeremy Tadman.
Cllr Kenneally previously confirmed he would stand down from the council in order to focus on his duties as a Torridge District Councillor after the arrival of a new child.
After a resignation is confirmed, if ten or more registered electors contact Torridge District Council requesting an election, the seat is not filled by co-option, where councillors choose the replacement candidate but rather by an election if there are more candidates that stand for election then there are seats.
If two or less candidates put their name forward, those who stand for election will automatically become members of the town council with the election being deemed as uncontested.
The deadline for nominations to be submitted is 4pm on June 19.
A spokesperson for Torridge District Council confirmed: “Following the notices of vacancy confirming the resignation of Councillor Nigel Kenneally and Councillor Jeremy Tadman from Holsworthy Town Council, the required number of valid signatures to request an election be held to fill both the vacancies have been received.”
