AN APPEAL for help has been made by representatives of the Holsworthy Scout and Guide headquarters.

The headquarters, also known locally as the Guide and Scout Hut, is run by a management team which keeps the building running for the use of the Guides, Scouts, Cubs, Brownies and Beavers — nearly 130 young people in all. The team arranges the maintenance, cleaning, payment of bills and fundraises for upkeep of the hut.

Over the past few years the headquarters has lost nearly 80 per cent of its income from hires, and electric costs have soared. It is losing about £1,000 per year, and as a result the team only has enough funds to operate for around six months. After that there may not be enough money to pay for electric, water or maintenance and the building could close.
