Holsworthy Rotary Club held a Gift and Silent Auction on Saturday evening in the village hall at Chilsworthy. The gift auction was conducted by Gordon Millar who entertained the punters while he extracted as much money as possible from them, even from those who were not aware that they had made a bid. Cedric Cooke finished up with three items although he is currently in Cuba and no, they were not phone bids! The evening generated £950 for club funds which will be distributed some time later. Musical entertainment was provided by Liz and David Jones, David Robinson, David Vaughan and John Westaway which was greatly appreciated by the audience. Presentations totalling £2,900 were also made to eight organisations from the proceeds of last year's Musical Extravaganza. The organisations that benefited were: MS Society (£300), Parkinsons Society (£300), The Salvation Army (£300), Holsworthy Town Band (£300), Cancer Research (£300), HATS (£400), Holsworthy Community College (£500) and Devon Air Ambulance (£500). The next Rotary event will be this year's Musical Evening on March 26 and 27 in the HATS theatre, tickets for which can be obtained from Equity Insurance in Bodmin Street.
