THE mayor of Holsworthy has expressed his delight after the town’s vintage and classic rally was a successful hit with its sizeable contingent of visitors.

Cllr Jon Hutchings is a member of the volunteer committee who oversee the organisation of the event, the future of which was threatened in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic.

His comments come after large crowds and pleasant weather descended on the Holsworthy Showground for the two-day event, which saw a vast array of vintage cars, tractors, lorries and traction engines among the star attractions.

There was also a packed timetable of entertainment for all the family, with the main show accompanied by a noticeable presence of trade stands, refreshments, displays and activities for those in attendance in the daytime, as well as live music and a bar in the evenings.

The mayor hailed the efforts of those who made it happen, and said that the attendance at the event was noticeably higher than previous years.

He added that efforts were already underway on next year’s edition of the vintage rally which he hopes will build on the success of the event just passed.

Cllr Hutchings said: “It was a really good show and a really good rally. The coronavirus pandemic killed it slightly and since then we’ve been trying to build it back up each year.

“I’ve been involved for the past three years, and things are definitely on the up. We’ve now got a whole new bunch of committee members, who have worked tirelessly through the year to bring an even bigger and better rally.

“Overall, it was a great rally and we’re (the committee) still learning bits and pieces, but it was really, really good.

“The attendance was really good, way up on previous years, so we’re going in the right direction and hopefully 2027 will be even bigger and even better.”
