A COMMUNITY event being organised by a Holsworthy mum whose son was injured whilst serving in Afghanistan is gathering support from across North Devon.
The event, which aims to support and raise awareness for the St John and Red Cross Defence Medical Welfare Service and Help for Heroes, will take place at Holsworthy Community College on Saturday, June 6 from 10am to 4pm. Admission is free with demonstrations, displays, stalls and workshops. Quiz sheets are also available around the town.
The event is being supported by many local organisations including the Holsworthy Army Cadets, Holsworthy Fire Service, the Lions with their wonderful barbecue and Holsworthy Majorettes. The community college is holding a non uniform day to help raise funds.
Also on board are Survival Laser Games, Jacky's Cakes, The Old Market Inn, Belly Laughs Belly Dancing, and Holt's Bouncy Castles. Visitors will also be able to have their photo taken in army kit as worn by service
personnel.
There will be a performance by the Devon Army Cadet Force Corps of Drums, a bushcraft stand with opportunities to sample bugs and beasties and chances to win free tickets to the Big Sheep and Milky Way theme parks.
Organiser Debbie Merritt said: "I am very grateful for all the offers of support we have received so far and would like to invite other organisations who feel they could help make this a special day to contact me."
Debbie can be contacted on 01409 254144.
