WHAT a way to break up for half term — jump aboard a fire engine, sit astride a police motorcycle for a photo or be 'locked up' in a cell in a police van.

These were the experiences offered to the children of Holsworthy Primary School at a fun day organised on Friday (May 24) by the local police in conjunction with the headmaster, Christiaan Stirling, writes Christine Williams.

The scheduled visit of the police helicopter did not materialise as it was called away to an incident, but there were plenty of other things to see and do.

You could meet a young trainee police dog and his handler or take part in a fancy dress competition which was won by six-year-old Fletcher Dymond appropriately dressed as a burglar.
