FOOTBALL is set to come home to Holsworthy in aid of two local community groups.

On Saturday, September 27, Upcott Field, the home of Holsworthy Football Club will become the scene for three football matches and a menagerie of family fun in aid of the inaugural ‘Mayor’s Charity Match Day’.

All funds raised on the day will benefit the two chosen charities of Cllr Jon Hutchings, the mayor of Holsworthy, namely Holsworthy AFC and Holsworthy Museum.

The day’s events will see Holsworthy AFC 1st team face off against Truro at 3pm, followed by a match between the past and present ladies versus Holsworthy FC at 5pm prior to the main event where a mayor’s select team will take on Holsworthy Vets at 7pm.

In addition to the three matches, there will also be an after party with live DJs, a hamper draw, a silent auction, a bucking bronco and inflatables as well as a range of food offerings and fun for the children.

Cllr Hutchings said: “The football club are about to embark on a major refurbishment of Upcott Field so I thought it was a good cause to support. The museum is an amazing asset for the town.

“The mayor’s match day is a break from the usual mayor’s fundraising event and as I was supporting the football club I thought it would be a good idea to hold an event involving football matches.”

Cllr Hutchings also elaborated on the calibre of his own mayor’s select team, adding: “My team will be made up of some well known faces from the town and not known for ever playing a football match. The aim of the day is to have some fun while raising some money for two great local organisations.”

Admission for the event is £5 for adults and £2.50 for children.
