372 New Season Lambs, 144 Draft Ewes and Rams

Smaller entry but a much stronger trade and more could have been sold. Overall average of 337.1ppk.

The well fleshed lambs sold to a top of 355ppk for 2 pens of 44kgs, £156 from Rod Evely of Woolaton Farm. Ed Richardson of Little Thorndon, Pyworthy realised 351ppk for a pen of 44.4kgs at £156.

Three vendor at 350, Oliver Copplestone of Derril 44.2kgs at £156, 2 pens from Peter Hobbs of Wrasford also M Cox of Bullhead Farm for 44.7kgs at £156.50. Top on the day was £160 from G.L Duke of Bridgeton, Werrington.

Draft Ewes

A much faster trade for all weights and breeds with an over all average of £139.26 - highest so far this week in the Southwest.

Suffolk x ewes to £188 from R Bond of Canna Park,another pen of Suffolk x ewes realised £180 from Rod Evely of Woolaton Farm, Texel x ewes to £171 from Horslett Farm Partnership, Clawton followed by Andy & James Melville of Trentworthy, Bradworthy who made £170 from twin white faces.

Mules to £167 from R Bond and Polled Dorset ewes to £159 from Peter Ansty of East Park, Iddesleigh.

236 Store Lambs

A good show of store lambs still very much in demand and everything in the overall average of £107 with the framed lambs selling to a top of £124 from Messrs Bond & Son of Braunds Kesmeldon for white faces.

Suffolk x lambs to £122 from Paul Tythcott. Day-o-Peep of Instow shorn lambs to £120 from Peter Jones of Bratton Clovelly.

286 Calves and Weaned Calves

Smaller numbers than expected and a more selective trade seen today with a lot of young, 2-3 week old calves in the lineup, having said this we have seen plenty of top end highlight prices.

Weaned Calves

A handful of weaned calves forward which sold to £735 (6m) for some strong British Blue heifers in from James Warren, Penzance who sold his single British Blue steer to £725 (6m).

Milk Calves

Top call was £845 for a strong pair of older British Blue bulls in from O Petherick & Son who sold a single well at £820.

More British Blue bulls to £720 for some younger sorts in from ST & EE Nickels, Barnstaple and another at £665. A great run of British Blue bulls up from Truro in from Paul George sold well to £680 only 4 weeks old followed by PJ Martin selling their outstanding British Blue bull to £672.

A great run of strong Limousin bulls reached a mega £830 for a older pair presented by Rachel Skinner, Halwill who sold other smart types at £750 and £720 followed by the wearing family making £700 of their young fresh Limousin bull.

A storming Simmental bull sailed up to an impressive £800 presented by Combe Lodge Farms, Milton Abbot, in next was a super run of Charolais bulls which hit £720 in from Wrangworthy Dairy who sold more well to £645 and £635.

The Aberdeen Angus bull section was commanded by Russell Risdon today with his usual quality 3-month-old Aberdeen Angus bulls racing up to £680 sold in a bunch of 5 and his second bunch of 7 at £642 with all 21 Aberdeen Angus bulls averaging £576.

Best Hereford bulls made £535 for ST and EE Nickels again followed by more to £490 in from Paul George. A single Devon forward which saw strong demand and made £370 in from MW and CJ Hawking, Highampton followed by many longhorns all sold by RG Denning, Truro and reached £365, £345 and £300 to average £256.

The heifer section topped at a grand £790 for some older types in from O Petherick again, others to £672 for a British Blue heifer in from PJ Martin, Buckland Filliegh with all British Blue heifers averaging just shy of £450.

Limousin heifers reached £730 for a pair in from Rachel Skinner again who had another pair behind at £590. A strong lineup of Charolais heifers sold well to £660, £615 and £602 in from Wrangworthy dairy.

Two strong Hereford heifers made £600 and £570 both in from Chris Bond, Buckland Brewer. Only one Simmental heifer forward today which realised £460 for Olly Murrian, Lydford. Older Aberdeen Angus heifers in from Russell Risdon again realised £648 for a bunch of four which were still on milk.

Dairy Sired Bulls

A superb lineup of Fleckvieh bulls in from Wrangworthy Dairy sold well and reached £635, £600 and £585 followed by Friesian bulls to £590 in from the same grand stable. 10 Friesian bulls average £22.

65 Store Cattle

A disappointing entry but somewhat expected after last week’s St Peters Fair Day.

Top today was £2220 for 2 21mth Limousin from Mr C Congdon of Saltash who sold Abeerdeen Angus steers to £2200 & Herefords to £2080. Other Herefords from Mr B Boundy of Stratton to £1920 and Welsh Blacks to £1680.

A superb run of fleshed 22mth British Blues from Messrs G Daniel & Son of North Tamerton who saw steers at £2200 (5) others at £2060 (4) & heifers to £2090, others £1970. Larger feeding British Blue steers 21mth from Messrs H & M Thorne of Umberleigh to £2120 who sold Charolais well at £1900 (19mth).

A short entry topping £1340 for 3 10mth British Blues from Mr B Boundy from Stratton, other young British Blues from Mr S Goodenough of Launceston saw steers to £1170 & British Blues heifers 10mth to £1100. Young Friesian steers from Mr S E Tucker of Holsworthy saw £760 (4)
