588 Fat Hoggs, 207 Draft Ewes and Rams
Good entry of hoggs met a mixed trade with the good meat hoggs still very much sought after and a strong trade selling to a top of 420ppk for 45.2kgs at £190 from DW Nancekivell & Son of Heatham, Kilkhampton.
Ken and Pat Bird of Crackington Haven made 410ppk for their 44.4kgs at £182 and Victor and Celia Goaman of Higher Clovelly made 410ppk for their 46kgs at £188.50.
There were a lot of leaner hoggs today which were harder to place, top per head on the day was £195.50 for 3 pens from Steve Cottle of Upcott, Welcombe with 4 other vendors at £195.
53 New Season Lambs
A very fast trade for all new season lambs and a lot more could have been sold.
Top per kilo on the day was 446ppk for 42.4kgs at £189 from FG Knapman & Partner of North Tawton and Geoffery & Simon Grigg of Weach Barton realised 439ppk for 41.2kgs at £181.
437ppk was met by Sally & Chris Prouse of Court Green Farm, Clawton for 42.4kgs to £186 and also a top per head on the day was £193.50 for 46kgs.
55 Store Hoggs
The large framed hoggs in keen demand, top being £193 from Graham & Hazel Butt of Ashbury Court.
Couples 62E and 88L
Another good entry and again a strong trade, doubles to £380 and singles to £295 all sold by David Wickett of Week St Mary.
Draft Ewes
Again a fantastic trade flying for all breeds and sizes and still more could have been sold.
Overall average on the day of eveything averaged just under £180, top per head being £268 for a Texel x from Matthew Jones of Holsworthy followed by £266 for a Charollais from Sally and Chris Prouse of Clawton.
Suffolk x to £225 from Lovistone Share Farming of Merton, Jacobs to £197 and Hill breeds to £152.
348 Calves
A smaller show of rearing calves but they sold to a livelier trade with the medium and smalls looking extremely well sold with very little under £200.
Weaned Calves
A small run of weaned calves which sold to a top of £920 (7m) given for a single smart Angus steer presented by Bendle and Lintin down from Chittlehampton who sold a further bunch well at £915 (x6 7m).
A single Blue steer sold to £785 (5m) in from Geoff Bond of Langtree.
Milk Calves
Top of the section was £780 given for a very eye catching Blue bull in from Nick and Kate Bowden of Highampton who sold a pair at £760 and another at £740.
Other Blue bulls to £760 from Graham Duke of Werrington, £760 also for WJ Hobbs who sold more to £745 (x2) and £740 again from Nickels Farm Partnership down from Barnstaple.
Best of the Charolais bulls hit £700 and £685 from the Wearing Family of Tavistock followed by the best of the Angus to £670 for Nick & Kate Bowden, £605 from AJ & JA Heard of Hartland, £595 Dallyns Dairy Ltd of Barnstaple, £540 FC Buse & Co, Wadebridge and also £540 for Jones Trelay Ltd.
Hereford bulls sold away to £622 for RW & JR Finnimore, Launceston others £615 and £605 sold by TA & SJ Kempthorne and £570 Diepenbroek Ltd.
Limousin bulls parted at £610 for NC & RM Skinner, Halwill and £558 for LJ Goaman & Sons.
Heifers on milk sold to a top of £720 for a well put together Blue from WJ Hobbs & Son who sold others well to £690 & £620, more good Blue heifers to £670 Stuart Ley of Sutcombe, £640 for Nick and Kate Bowden, £625 for TA & SJ Kempthorne, £608 for Dave & Dianne Furse, Ashwater.
Charolais heifers to £635 for RJ & JR Finnimore who sold another to £500 followed by Limousin heifers to £620 from WJ Hobbs & Son others to £570 from JR Frayne of Launceston.
Hereford heifers to £610 on two occasions, firstly for Diepenbroek Farms and secondly Dallyns Dairy Ltd, more £498 Dave & Dianne Furse again, £482 Graham Duke and £450 Andrew Oke of Bradford.
Dairy Sired Bulls
A good entry sold to £530 for a pair of reared sorts in from WJ Hobbs others £486 Martin Heal, Torrington, £290 & £285 for Jones Trelay Ltd with all 18 Friesian bulls averaging £230 ahead.
400 Store Cattle
A cracking entry with several consignments of quality cattle on offer, the top this week was £2500 for a tremendous pure bred 16mth Charolais from Mr GW Bowden of Black Torrington who also sold younger 13mth Charolais at £2140.
A superb consignment of single suckled steers from Messrs WD & ME Walter of Putford saw a 24mth Limousin top at £2480, other Limousins to £2340, £2300 & £2200 and British Blues from the same farm to £2360.
Stronger Dairy x continentals sold well, plenty 18-22mth steers at £2000+, topping at £2100 for 4 British Blues from Messrs PM JM & RP Reed of Milton Dameral.
Other British Blues from Mr SW Graham of Bridgerule at £2080 (4) & £2060 for British Blues from 2 vendors, Mr GW Bowden & Mr HR Yelland and an 18mth British Blues from Messrs D & E Kirk of Ashwater to £2050(5) & £2030(5).
Dairy x Charolais saw keen demand, £2100 was realised for 3 from Messrs WG S & JR Axford of Holsworthy who sold others to £2020 and 2 well fleshed Charolais from Messrs PH JM & RP Reed at £2060 (2).
Aberdeen Angus x Friesians sold well topping at £2220 for a 24mth steer from Mr HR Yelland of Clawton.
A good run of 17mth Aberdeen Angus steers from Mr R Aston of Pyworthy saw £2160 (4), £2070 (3) and £2020(7) and Hereford steers to £2120 from Mr J Norman of Dolton who also sold others to £1980 with plenty of other strong grazing Herefords at £1900 +.
Friesians again sold well to £2020, the top for a steer from Mr HR Yelland of Clawton others to £1930. A run of large Framey Holsteins from Mr HF Chubb of Tetcott to £1720 (5) & £1640 (9).
Younger Cattle
A good entry this week and the trade seemed stronger than last week.
Top this week was £1860 for 10- 12mth single suckled Herefords from Mr N Aris of Torrington who also sold other 13mth Herefords to £1720.
12-13mth British Blue steers saw 3 from Meesrs DF & ER James of Halwill at £1700 and a 13mth British Blue again from Mr N Aris to £1700.
Aberdeen Angus in demand, a 12mth Aberdeen Angus steer from Messrs WJ Wooldridge & Son of Putford to £1770.
A run at 11mth olds from Messrs RW & R Risdon saw 4 steers to £1420 and 10 Aberdeen Angus heifers to £1350.
Pure Devon steers 9-12mth from Mr JA Slee of Bideford at £1580(3) and younger 7mth Devon steers from the same farm to £1280.
7mth Devon heifers to £1040 (4) other 7mth single suckled Charolais steers from Mr JP Williams of Yelverton saw 5 at £1320 others to £1300.
