AT the last meeting of the Halwill Garden Club Toshi Hull gave a demonstration of the art of Ikebana. The members were fascinated how so few flowers could be arranged to give so much impact. Whether it was due to Toshi's calm approach or some Zen presence in the room, never had a Garden Club meeting been so tranquil and quiet.
The second part of the evening was when some of the members (all ladies) tried to put what they had been shown into practise. Being of the English school of flower arranging they had all brought far too many flowers and foliage, but made a valiant attempt to produce simple displays, some even succeeded.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday September 21 when Janet Anderson will give a talk on the History of the Devon Garden Trust. Anyone is welcome to come along to meetings or to join us on our garden outings. More details from Jane Spencer (Chairman) 01409 221505.
