THE Friends of Holsworthy Primary School will be hosting a themed ‘Wedding Ball’ on Saturday, June 25, to raise money for Holsworthy Primary School.

The Friends of Holsworthy Primary School is the PTA group and was established in 1995. The current committee members took over their positions in September and they are: Serena Cole, chairperson; Jane Ivey, secretary; Georgie Harris, treasurer and Lisa Cackett, vice treasurer.

Since taking over their roles they have brought new ideas to the school for the children to take part in and have also decided to hold an event so that the adults get to enjoy themselves too.

Serena came up with the idea of having a ‘Wedding Ball’. This is a disco, by Silver Fox Trott Discos, where ladies who can, and want to, get to wear their wedding dresses again.

As the theme is ‘wedding’ people can dress up as a guest of a wedding, as a groom, a bridesmaid, or even a vicar. Some ladies have had the idea of coming as a group of friends on a hen night.

At the ball there will be a buffet of pasties, cakes, a cheeseboard and a sweet kart.

Jane, the secretary, has sourced over 20 prizes for the raffle. These include a family ticket to the At – Science Centre and Planetarium in Bristol, a round of golf for four at Holsworthy Golf Course, two Theatre Royal tickets, a day at Exeter Races for two, New Mills Farm Park family ticket and much more.

There will also be a photo corner with a photographer, Kerri Carroll, who will take pictures of guests and their friends. Those taking part will be able to purchase their photograph at a later date when they are on display in Peter, Peter & Wright’s window.

The main reason for the ‘Wedding Ball’ is to raise money for Holsworthy Primary School. Monies raised from the ball will go towards purchasing playground equipment to include trim trails and a climbing lodge for the infant and junior playgrounds.

They would also like to install some surfacing which will enable the equipment to be used all year round.

They have already received donations from The Balsdon Trust, the Holsworthy Lions and the RAOB. The Balsdon Trust donation was enough to purchase a new playlodge for the infant playground.

The Friends group expressed their gratitude after receiving these donations and can’t thank the donators enough. The ‘Wedding Ball’ will take place on Saturday, June 25, starting at 7.30pm at the Holsworthy Memorial Hall.

Tickets are available from The White Hart, The Hat Shop, Reflections and Llewellyns Hairdressers, all based in Holsworthy.

The Friends of Holsworthy Primary School said: “The Friends are very excited about this event and can’t wait to see everyone all dressed up, enjoying themselves whilst raising money for the school at the same time. If the event is successful we hope to hold it annually with different themes. “
