Drivers look set to face a 22 mile diversion as more roadworks get underway this month.

A stretch of A388 between Callington and St Mellion has been identified for resurfacing work at the end of this month. As a result, drivers will be taken on a 22 mile diversion, adding some 35 minutes onto their journey.

Between August 17 and August 22, from 7pm to 6am, the 2.4 mile stretch of road will be closed to allow for resurfacing works.

As a result of this, drivers needing to access the route will instead be detoured on a 22 mile diversion which will see more than 30 minutes added to their journey as they are taken along the A390 to Liskeard before travelling down the A38 passed Saltash and finally back to St Mellion.

Cornwall Council documents explain: “The Order shall come into operation on 17th August 2023 and shall remain in force for eighteen months, however, this order can be extended by the Secretary of State for Transport. The works are expected to be completed by the 22nd August 2023.

“The prohibition will be in force between the hours of 1900 and 0600, weekends included.”
