CONFUSION has arisen over who Holsworthy’s Highways contact at Devon County Council is after work to clear drains outside the council chambers is yet to be completed.

Mayor Cllr Jon Hutchings gave councillors a bit of background information during the full council meeting on Wednesday, January 16. He said: “Highways emailed us to say there was work we needed to carry out. Each area should have its own dedicated Highways contact. They demanded we do something for them but when we replied to say that the drains are still blocked outside the council chambers after they told us someone would come out at the beginning of January and still haven’t, they didn’t reply — so we now don’t know if that was our contact or not as we haven’t heard back from them.”

Cllr Ken Watson, who is also governor for Holsworthy Community College, said Highways re-tarmaced the surface outside the college’s entrance recently but didn’t repaint the zig zag lines.

“The college had to get in contact with Highways and have been speaking with someone — they might be our contact?”

The town clerk Vanessa Saunders said she would continue to investigate and track down the Highways contact.
