THIS year’s Holsworthy Carnival takes place on Saturday, November 17.

In 2017, Holsworthy Carnival committee decided to open up the positions of ‘Carnival Queen’ and ‘Fairy Queen’ to both boys and girls.

Unfortunately there was a lack of entries so the position was not filled. A spokesperson said: “One young boy did put his name forward for the position of Fairy Prince, but then didn’t turn up to meet the selection panel with the other applicants.”

This year the committee is once again seeking applications from boys and girls. The title of ‘Fairy’ Queen or Prince has been dropped for 2018, and replaced by the simpler ‘Carnival Prince’ or ‘Princess’.

Prospective applicants should be attending a local primary school and live in the catchment area for Holsworthy Community College.

Applicants for the positions of Holsworthy ‘Carnival King’ or ‘Queen’ should again be living in the catchment area for the College, but there is no upper-age limit, so applications are invited from anybody of the age of 12 to 100!

The closing date for applications is September 30, and more information is available on the Holsworthy Carnival website and Facebook page.
