PUPILS from Ashwater Primary School made clay poppies to lay at the war memorial in Ashwater in honour of the soldiers lost in the Great War. The children were inspired by the clay poppy display at the Tower of London which commemorated the 100th anniversary of the centenary of the start of World War I in 2014. Mrs Ruh Alford, executive headteacher, said: “I am very proud of the effort the children put into making these beautiful poppies. They will be a long lasting tribute to those who lost their lives for our freedom.”
