A TOWN carnival will be led by royalty after a long campaign to find willing queens. For a long time it looked like Holsworthy Carnival would not have a carnival queen. The closing date for applications was extended, but still nobody came forward to volunteer. Unfortunately, there were also only two applicants for the position of fairy queen. Ray Fursdon, chairman of the carnival committee, said: "In the end it all came down to a simple question of maths. We had a total of two positions to fill, and a total of two applicants. Once we looked at it that way, the decision was easy." The two applicants for fairy queen were 10-year-old Paige Davies and 7-year-old Zara Kepple.
