THE new owners of the Deer Park nursing home have issued a clarification over the future of the nursing home.

Deer Park Nursing Home, previously known as Deer Park Care Home, was acquired in September 2024 by award-winning dementia care providers Camelot Care, who plan to provide high-quality residential dementia care.

The clarification comes after residents contacted The Post enquiring over its future amid an unproven rumour about the property being used for asylum seekers.

Camelot Care have confirmed that the reason it has not yet opened is that it is presently undertaking an extensive refurbishment prior to an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), scheduled for late August.

Paul Teasdale, director of Camelot Care, said: “Deer Park Nursing Home was purpose-built as a care home, and since we acquired the property last September Camelot Care has been carrying out substantial improvements to the interior.

“All care home operators across England and Wales are obliged to register each care home with the CQC who set out terms and conditions for their safe and effective operation.

“We expect to have our pre-launch inspection of Deer Park towards the end of August, which will award us our registration, and would hope to be able to open our doors shortly afterwards.

“We have already had positive discussions with Devon County Council, who are very supportive of our plans to bring high-quality nursing and residential dementia care to the local community.”

Deer Park Nursing Home is located on Rydon Road in private grounds of approximately 1.8 acres, including gardens and generous parking. Each resident will have their own bedroom and wet room.

Camelot Care has been providing residential dementia care since 2002 and currently runs four other homes in the South West: Butterfly Lodge in Plymouth; Camelot House and Lodge in Wellington; Avalon Nursing Home in Bridgwater and Chestnut Lodge in Yeovil.
