CELEBRATIONS have gotten underway in Bude after students bucked the national trend to achieve brilliant GCSE results.
Budehaven Community School’s headteacher, Mr Wilkes has praised students following some impressive GCSE performances.
Speaking to the Post, Mr Wilkes said: “We were delighted to celebrate the successes of our Year 11 pupils as they collected their GCSE results today. So many of our young people achieved excellent outcomes.
“Against a backdrop of falling results nationally, Budehaven Community School’s outcomes bucked this trend, with many headline figures being higher than the national average. For example, English results were significantly higher than the published national averages today.”

As well as good results, the school has also seen a big uptake in enrolment for the site’s sixth form.
Mr Wilkes continued: “Enrolment to Budehaven’s highly successful Sixth Form today has been fantastic, with many of our pupils choosing to stay on at Budehaven to complete their Level 3 further education choices. This follows a highly successful A Level results day last Thursday, 14th August, at which so many of our Sixth Form students achieved their first-choice university places, including many Russell Group University and also Oxbridge.
“Our Year 11 pupils achieved a significant number of top grades, including Grade 9 outcomes across the suite of subjects we offer at GCSE.
“Huge congratulations to our pupils and a big thank you to all staff, parents and carers for all their support. We wish everyone well in their futures.”
