THE Holsworthy Explorer Scouts received their Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Awards at their Christmas party on Thursday evening, December 15.

To achieve their awards the Scouts had to spend three months volunteering, three months taking part in a physical activity and three months improving or learning a new skill, plus a further three months in one of the sections.

Some of the activities that the Scouts participated in included creative writing, volunteering in local youth groups and walking to keep fit.

The group also had to take part in a two-day expedition starting and finishing in Camelford on two of the wettest days of the summer holidays. However, the Scouts did not let the weather dampen their spirits and all completed their expeditions in good time.

Explorer leader Mark Sleep said he was extremely proud of the young people and impressed with their resilience during very testing weather conditions and their community spirit whilst volunteering.

Some of the Scouts have already signed up to participate in their Silver award.
