Bradford and Cookbury Village Hall celebrated the tenth anniversary of its relocation to a site next to the primary school in Holemoor on July 16 and July 17 .

The project was made possible through the hard work and forward thinking of a project team together with the local community.

Local fundraising, sale of the old hall and grants from the Lottery Fund, Devon County Council and Torridge District Council provided the building capital.

In addition, a substantial sum was pledged by many parishioners and this was pivotal in securing funding. It is a much admired and well maintained building in an open location.

The hall is in use most days and evenings by the school and preschool, local clubs and groups. It is a popular venue for performances, parties and receptions.

The celebrations started with a community fun evening on the school field and children and adults played football, rounders and netball. A barbecue was then enjoyed by over a hundred people.

The school children had all produced a painting for a tenth anniversary picture gallery in the hall and Mike Welch, of Cookbury, exhibited a time line of photographs of the old and new halls.

The following afternoon, strawberry cream teas were served by the men of the hall committee dressed as waiters and Torridge Male Voice Choir provided a concert of light music with an element of the Last Night of the Proms for all to join in.

The evening party began with a fancy dress competition and games for the children. Samba band, Energia, got the real party spirit going as over 200 adults and children enjoyed a barbecue, hog roast and a big birthday cake.

Kelvin Isaac provided music and kept everybody laughing as did the decorated hat competition.

At the end of the party, chairman of the committee, Steve Oke, led a long conga out of the hall and around the building. It turned out to be what had been intended, a big happy village party, blessed by good weather.
