CAMELFORD Town Council received a record number of entries for this years Camelford in Bloom competition, it would seem that several residents decided to try their hand at gardening during lockdowns and the results were impressive.
Consequently the judges, town Mayor Cllr Rob Rotchell, Camelford Volunteer Gardeners member Wendy Clark and town librarian Bronwen Hockerday had their work cut out choosing winners for the four categories. After much deliberation the results were as follows:
Commercial Garden — The trophy was awarded to Alison Sloper of Sycamores Camping site at Valley Truckle. Alison spent lockdown turning the site into a very impressive pop up campsite, there are formal planting areas interspersed with lush green areas perfect for enjoying time away surrounded by colourful, fragrant flowers.
Hanging Baskets — Anyone walking or driving through Camelford would be hard pressed to not notice the colourful and impressive hanging baskets outside The Masons Arms, husband and wife team, Alan and Kate Woods are immensely proud of their display which smells amazing attracting many butterflies and bees and gives a homely welcome to anyone visiting the pub.
Front Gardens — This was awarded to Nancy Lane of Tregoodwell, the judges were so impressed with the cottage feel of the garden, everywhere they looked they were drawn in and noticed different plants, water features, beautiful Cornish murals and the odd gnome or two. Nancy is assisted with her garden by her friend Billy.
Allotment Garden — The allotments are looking splendid and there were several entries. The trophy was awarded to Plot 17 which is cared for by Leslie Meredith and his mother Maxine. Leslie was keen that his mother should receive the credit for this wonderful plot and rightly so. The judges were particularly impressed with the diversity and character shown on the allotment with vegetables, fruits and flowers being grown in abundance.
The mayor decided to give a special prize this year to a young lady who has taken on her own plot with the help of her mother Kerrie.
Izabelle Page, aged 11 was given a special commendation certificate and received an allotment book and some seeds to recognise all her hard work as the judges wanted to award such dedication.
