A TOWN council has launched an appeal for information after its ‘Letters to Heaven’ post box was struck by a vehicle.

Wadebridge Town Council said that the incident took place between 8am and 10.30am on Friday, July 17.

It is believed that the structure was struck by a vehicle, rendering it dangerous to remain in place and therefore necessitating its removal by the town council’s parks team.

A "Letters to Heaven" postbox is a memorial postbox located in a cemetery or crematorium garden where people can send letters, cards, and messages to deceased loved ones.

The initiative provides a comforting outlet for grief, allowing visitors to express feelings, share updates, and remember those who have passed.

In the instance of the Wadebridge ‘Letters to Heaven’ facility, none of the envelopes containing letters are opened with all of the letters being composted and used at the cemetery.

It is expected that the ‘Letters to Heaven’ post box will be returned at a later date with Wadebridge Town Council’s parks team assessing the damage impacted and the repairs required before it can return once again.

The town council said that it will do everything they can to speed up this process.

A spokesperson for Wadebridge Town Council said: “Unfortunately, the town council’s parks team have needed to remove the Letters to Heaven Post Box from Egloshayle Cemetery after it appears to have been struck by a vehicle causing damage to the structure.

“We believe this incident happened sometime between 8am and 10.30am on Friday, July 17 2026. If anyone witnessed what happened or has information that could help please do get in touch.

“The Parks team will assess the damage to determine what repairs are needed. We will do everything we can to return the post box to the cemetery as soon as possible.

“Thank you for your understanding.”
