PYWORTHY's Lisa Doherty will, in October, be trekking across the African country of Tanzania in an attempt to raise £2,500 for the Devon Air Ambulance.
Whilst on the 74km trek — which is anticipated to take five days — she will be accompanied by the Maasai tribesmen, who will lead the way.
Starting in the foothills of the 2,590 metre high Mount Longido — a sacred Maasai mountain, Lisa will head across the floor of the Great Rift Valley right to the foothills of the Crater Highlands.
By taking part in this challenge through the Charity Challenge group (the same company that set up Cheryl Cole and Gary Barlow's climb to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro), the local Maasai tribes will be supported by each village passed through with a donation of $20 for water sanitation, as well as earning a wage for their services as guides.
This will help maintain their current way of life, which is under threat from the droughts that have hit East Africa.
A dental receptionist for Dr J Chope at Penrose Dental Practice in Holsworthy, 36-year-old Lisa has lived in Pyworthy for a little over three years now — a village in which she says she has "loved every minute."
