HELPING deter thieves, RGB Building Supplies’ team in Holsworthy held a tool marking event at its store on Wednesday, May 8.

Crime Prevention Officer Kim Foster joined them on the day and said: “Thieves don’t like marked property as it makes items much harder to sell on. Property marking also increases the chances of your property being returned to you should it be stolen. The product being offered at our tool marking events is a SelectaDNA forensic marking kit. Each kit contains a unique DNA code which allows police to identify and return your property and link criminals to the crimes they commit.

“There is enough fluid to mark 50 items and the solution lasts for at least five years. The kits come with tamper proof stickers to advertise the use of the product on tools and on traders vans because DNA acts as a deterrent to any potential thief.”

She added: “We are delighted that RGB Building Supplies has seen the value of this campaign and has generously funded marking kits in addition to the ones supplied by Devon and Cornwall Police. The company’s stores are also very appropriate venues in which to hold the events.”

A second event was held in Launceston at the town’s RGB Building Supplies store yesterday [May 15] from 7.30pm to 2pm.
