AN axe wielding vandal has admitted smashing windows at a pub after he was seen walking through the streets of Holsworthy with the weapon in his hand.

Cameron Headon, aged 22, admitted carrying out a series of offences over the course of March and April this year.

Headon, of no fixed abode in Barnstaple, pleaded guilty to carrying out an assault by battery and affray on March 23.

He also admitted damaging groceries and alcoholic drinks at an Esso garage in North Devon on April 28 and to criminal damage and having an axe in a public place on April 30.

He was arrested after an incident in which he was seen carrying the axe through the town before attacking the outside of the Golden Fleece pub in Holsworthy.

Judge David Evans adjourned his sentence at Exeter Crown Court and ordered a probation report.

Mr Rupert Taylor, defending, said there may be mental health issues which will need to be explored.
