IT was a proud day for the Holsworthy Army Cadet community and their families and supporters after 27 awards were issued for their achievements.

The awards included shooting medals and badges, basic training badges promotions, BTec Diplomas and an NHS cadet completion certificate.

Runner up shooting medals from a recent air rifle competition involving all of North Devon ACF detachments were awarded to Reuben Willis, Jazmine Willson, Liam Williams, Jonathan Wood, Amber Butterworth and Arthur Cann.

Passing basic training and receiving awards from Area Training Officer 2Lt Jon Gard Hannah Northcott, Amber Butterworth, Noah Dawe, Ryan and Dylan Reynolds.

Cpl Aaron Squirrell and LCpl Ellie Goodwin received a BTec Diploma. LCpl Tavia Thompson was presented with a certificate of completion having attended the Devon ACF “NHS Cadet” course which offered an incite into working life and employment opportunities within the service. She also received a First Aid badge.

Finally Jazmine Williams and Reuben Willis were promoted to LCpl and LCpls Tavia Thompson and Paige Chidley to full Cpl after demonstrating leadership skills and instructional ability.

Detachment Commander Lt Jim Harvey commented on the event saying: “It was a fantastic evening with many parents joining us to witness the success and development of our young people. I am extremely proud to be their leader and thank both the cadets and my fantastic adult team for their commitment and efforts at Holsworthy detachment.”

After receiving promotion to Cpl and receiving a JCIC badge, Charlotte Chidley, mother to Paige, said of her daughter’s achievements: “Since Paige joined Holsworthy Army Cadets she has made many friends within her detachment and others.

“Paige has been given many opportunities to try new activities and to represent her detachment at several town events.

“Her confidence has grown immensely, and her leadership skills have flourished.”

Lt Jim Harvey confirmed that the detachment will be looking for new recruits in September.
