By Nathan Pollard, vice-commodore
THE Upper Tamar Lake Sailing Club recently held their 2025 annual general meeting at the Launcells Parish Hall.
The commodore, vice commodore, cear commodores and treasurer all gave their reports and the club officers were all re-elected.
After the meeting there was the annual presentation of cups and trophies for races held throughout 2025 followed by club members enjoying a ‘bring and share’ supper and a game of skittles.
The season consisted of 32 Sundays and a possible 63 races, of which 51 went ahead.
The first half of the year were dominated by light winds and the second half dominated by strong winds which thinned the fleet out to those willing to battle the gusts.
The highlight of the season was on July 13 which, though most members have a love-hate relationship with the series, ended up being a double Pursuit race day when the allocated spare second race was filled with the Pursuit race which was missed on May 25. It was a warm day with a moderate breeze which attracted a high of 12 boats and included a few new members.
Thanks go to those who gave up their racing to man the safety boat so we could extend the length of our racing season in the absence of South West Lakes Trust safety boat cover.
Even though we have finished our racing programme, we have one last social race to be held which is our annual Boxing Day race starting at midday and ending with lunch. However, it will only go ahead if conditions allow.
This is always a popular social day even if sailing doesn’t take place and we look forward to some of our new member joining us this year.
Our new season begins at the end of March 2026, while anyone interested in joining the club should visit, www.utlsc.org.uk
