BUDE RATs saw several members secure impressive finishes at the Treggy 7 in Launceston on Sunday, September 6.

The coastal outfit made one of their shortest journeys of the season for race 12 out of 15 in the Cornwall Grand Prix Race Series which starts and finishes in Launceston. The event gets underway in the town centre before a sprint finish into the castle after heading down towards Newport and along Underlane before the infamous near one-mile climb up to Tregadillet and the sprint finish back into the town via Western Road.

On the female front, Chloe Constantine’s 53 minutes and 34 seconds was good enough for third in the F55-59 section, just one second behind Hayle’s Gail Aspden, although Cornwall AC’s Zelah Morrall was nearly five minutes ahead. Nic Emmett was the only other Bude lady to compete, getting home in 1:11:57.

Six men raced with two – Morgan Craig and Stephen Hutchinson – securing age group prizes.

Craig’s rapid time of 43:22 was enough for second in the M45-49 section, 45 seconds adrift of winner Francis Malone-Lee but 20 clear of Truro’s Alex Marples, while Hutchinson – now up to the M75-79 category – was comfortably second by nearly five minutes after getting over the line in 1:06:15.

The other finishers included Jeremy Brown’s 50 minutes on the dot which secured fourth in the M55-59 section, while Jack Gale (53:36), Ben Rogers (1:03:09) and Dave Cook (1:08:36) also completed the challenging seven-mile route.

Camelford Up and Running saw four members finish, those being Jonathan Holt (1:09:38), Emily Parr (1:14:21), Emma Deanes (1:14:03) and Holly Hutchins (1:16:04), although none were in the age group prizes.
