THE third-ever Duchy an Dinas race organised by St Austell Athletes Running Club was held on Sunday, October 11.
Restricted to 150 entrants, the difficult, hilly route was part of the Cornish Multi-Terrain Race Series for the first time and was held out of the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery in Lostwithiel.
The five-mile route has an elevation gain of over 1,000 feet and is up to 90% of trail, ensuring an unforgettable experience which includes a run up through the valley and to Restormel Castle where you will do a loop of the castle.
From there, runners dropped back to Restormel Woods before looping out towards Lostwithiel before heading back across the valley and passing over the River Fowey before finishing back at the nursery.
To add to the host club’s successful day, both the male and female winner were from the Athletes as James Brydon and Rach Tyers took the respective titles.
Brydon (38:29) was just eight seconds ahead of Truro’s Andrew Senior who was only 14 clear of Hayle’s Neil Hayhurst.

Tyres’ 42:55 had a slightly less dramatic race, ending 48 seconds clear of club-mate Stacie Tregonning, while Hayle Runners’ Florence Davies-Kirsop took third in 43:59.
On the team front, St Austell Athletes took the ladies honour with their four best finishers totalling just 20, with Truro Running Club (35) and Falmouth Running Club (71) second and third.
In the men’s team event, Hayle Runners’ score of 36 edged out Truro (48) and St Austell Running Club (51).
