THE Cannons, Castles and Cabettes completed a clean sweep of victories to gild the CABs Cornish derby win against St Austell for a weekend to remember at Launceston Rugby Club.

The re-ignited thirds, now aptly named ‘The Cannons’, played their inaugural match under the Friday night lights against St Austell’s ‘Spartans’ at Polson Bridge.

A game played in the right spirit showcased both clubs’ strength in-depth, but it was the hosts who proved too powerful, winning 41-24 with mini/juniors graduate Jack Swain scoring a hat-trick in a man-of-the-match performance.

On Saturday, the Castles took to Tregorrick Park straight after the CABs win to try and complete the three-peat over their Cornish neighbours.

Early first half dominance at 17-0 for Launceston turned into a scrappy second half dog fight as both teams struggled to keep hold of the ball.

The ‘Sinners’ fought back to within a score, but the ‘Castles’ held on and scored in the final play to complete the sweep with a 31-17 win. Brandon Rowley gave the selectors a headache with an outstanding performance from No.8.

On Sunday, the Cabettes welcomed Cheltenham Tigers Seconds in Women’s Championship South West Two looking to bounce back after a humbling first away fixture at Newbury.

They wasted little time putting those demons to bed as they ran in seven tries before the half-time whistle and continued that ferocity by adding another six after the break to seal a 69-0 win, rounding off a perfect weekend for all senior teams at Launceston.

Meg Tucker looked more and more at home in the 10 jersey, getting the team firing on all cylinders and bagging herself a brace to earn the ‘back of the match’ gong, while prop and skipper Kim Upcott put in a typically impressive powerhouse performance to be named ‘forward of the match’.
