WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP SOUTH WEST TWO

Launceston Ladies 62 Oxford Harlequins Ladies 12

LAUNCESTON ran in 10 tries as they recorded a dominant 62-12 victory over fellow league newcomers Oxford Harlequins at Polson Bridge on Sunday.

Launceston got to work early with two quick tries from Jess Harrison and Meg Tucker, both converted by Caitlyn Hancock.

Against the momentum though, Quins scored an unconverted try in the corner.

The Cabettes learned that lesson fast and dominated the rest of the half.

Scores from Joey Bartlett, Jenna Arnold and Kim Upcott kept the scoreboard ticking over but the pick of the scores came when No.8 Alex Hutchings outsmarted the Oxford attack with an intercept. An offload to Abbie Smith was followed up by another to Tucker who dived in under the sticks.

The heaviness of the pitch began to take its toll on the players early in the second half, but the light-footed Tucker seemed impervious to the conditions as she cut a line to scythe through the defence and run in from 70 metres.

Launceston continued to add to the scoreline as Hutchings capped a fine performance with a try of her own.

Oxford though continued to fight and spent a large portion of the half in Launceston territory, eventually earning a second try.

But the Cabettes ensured they had the last word as Grace Tucker sniped over from scrum-half and Jess Harrison book ended the scoring with her second.

Launceston’s final game of 2025 sees them visit Ivybridge on Sunday.
