SOUTH WEST PENINSULA LEAGUE PREMIER WEST
Mousehole 4 Launceston 1
LAUNCESTON fell to a fourth straight defeat as strugglers Mousehole ran out 4-1 winners at Trungle Parc on Saturday.
The Clarets were looking to bounce back from defeats to the high-flying trio of Penzance, Camelford and Sticker, and boss Simon Minett was able to give a debut to striker Harry Probyn who has been a regular starter for Liskeard Athletic in the Western League this season. However, central defender Jude Jago was still missing through injury.
The game opened with Probyn demonstrating neat close control, but it was Kian Berry who carved out the first opportunity for Lee Robinson to force home keeper Gerens James into a smart save.
The Clarets were unfortunate to fall behind after 24 minutes when a clear handball was missed by the officials, allowing Lucas Best to mark his Mousehole debut with the opening goal. Within three minutes that lead was doubled when Isaac Joy was able to poke a loose ball past Howie Evans.
Launceston were still creating chances, which included Tom Bullock firing over from 15 yards, but they then saw skipper James Simmons forced off with a leg injury.
The second half opened with the best goal of the game, when a deep cross from the right was superbly volleyed home by the lively Kian Obayan.
The Clarets stuck to their task and Probyn’s tidy finish from 15 yards kept his side within reach. This wasn’t their day, however, and Berry collected a second yellow card for a minor shirt-pulling offence.
Victor Mullalay rounded off the scoring with a late goal for Mousehole to complete an unsatisfactory day for the visitors.
LAUNCESTON: Howie Evans; Ryan Dawe, Dylan Rangecroft, Tom Bullock, James Simmons (capt), Tom Manuel, George Davey, Louis Taylor, Lee Robinson, Harry Probyn, Kian Berry. Subs: Kaiet Rasche, Taylor Davey, Sam Tattersall.
