HOLSWORTHY boss Kevin Squire has bolstered his squad for the rest of the season by signing striker Brad Ausden from Okehampton Argyle.

The Magpies, who saw Saturday’s trip to Truro City Reserves postponed due to storm damage at Helston Athletic AFC where the fixture was due to be played, have won just two of their last nine league games in South West Peninsula League Premier West. It’s meant Squire has decided to freshen things up and will hope Ausden can help add some goals to a side who have scored just once in their last three games.

On his new signing, he said: “Brad joins from Okehampton where has regularly scored goals. Brad has had a couple of injuries in the past 18 months which has been unfortunate, but now fit is an asset to the squad.”

Squire has also recently brought in Rory Simmons and Lewis Haxell.

Simmons has been a valuable squad member at Western League Premier Division title-chasers Torpoint Athletic, but has now joined the Magpies in search of regular first-team football, while the diminutive Haxell, who has been at Upcott Field is also back.

Both players were brought off the bench in the Boxing Day defeat at Bude Town, and were given starts at St Day.

On the two, Squire added: “Rory moved to the area recently after living away, and although he started the season at Torpoint, is an experienced full-back/midfielder who will improve the squad and provide options.

“It’s also great to have Lewis back after a season at Callington, and he knows the club.

“We’re delighted to have him come into the squad and will provide us with something a bit different.”

Holsworthy are due to welcome Southern League outfit Brixham tonight in the Devon St Luke’s Challenge Cup (7.45pm) before visiting title-chasing Liskeard Athletic on Saturday (3pm).
